Exhibits of Note
Out the Window, Around the Town, Brickbottom Gallery, Somerville, MA, 2016
Somerville As Muse, Brickbottom Gallery, Somerville, MA, 2021
This body of work reflects over 27 years of Maurice’s engagement with the landscape outside her studio window, capturing the ever-changing spectacle of seasons and shifting light. She is drawn to the industrial character of Somerville—railroad tracks and shrubs in the foreground, trees juxtaposed against office buildings, and the highways crisscrossing Route 93 in the distance.
The Green Line Extension reshaped this landscape, introducing new visual challenges. As machines carve into the earth, trees and weeds along the rails and concrete persist, continuing their cycle of growth, seemingly unaffected by the transformation around them. Built and natural forms intertwine, creating a dynamic interplay of relationships across near and distant spaces.
